Helping Our Community

Please see the information below regarding Center of the Plate. Please pass on to interested members in your clubs/chapters.

In 2019 Center of the Plate(COP) is in need of steer and pig donations to help food insecure families in our community. COP was created by Drippings Springs 4-H and FFA members. Since its inception 3 years ago COP has helped provide 34,000 meals! We need your help to feed more families this year. There are two ways you can help. First a market animal donation. Another option is through the “I’m In” add-on initiative. Members who make the auction can pledge a flat amount or a percentage of their add-on to Center of the Plate. The funds received from I’m In are used for meat processing costs. If you have any questions contact Faith Baxter at baxterfaith0202@yahoo.com . Center of the Plate will have a booth at the Hays County Livestock Show on Saturday the day of the Auction

Denim Drive at the Livestock Show

Rebekah McDaniel is hosting a denim drive for her Fashion and Interior Design Ambassador team.  She will have a collection box at the Livestock Show for
                                                                                    denim.
It can be jeans, skirts, shirts - even denim scraps - in any condition.  The denim will be sent to the Blue Jeans Go Green project that turns denim into housing insulation for organizations like Habitat Humanity.  Could you please share this information with your clubs so that members can bring their used denim to the Livestock Show next week?  If you have any questions, contact Rebekah McDaniel at 512-665-2808.

Austin School Tours

The Rodeo Austin School Tours Program is gearing up for another busy year! The dates for School Tours this year will be March 25-29, 2019 and we expect over 6,500 attendees. We would like to invite students 13 and older to participate as School Tours Guides or Helpers.

Rodeo Austin School Tours is a half-day program for elementary-aged students consisting of an educational tour with multiple stops and a picnic lunch in the Rodeo Arena. We are looking for organizations, clubs or groups of students that are looking for volunteer opportunities or to become more involved with Rodeo Austin. These students will either be assigned as a Guide where they will be assigned specific classes and tour routes, or a Helper who will work with the School Tour Guides Committee and assist with event execution.

If you would like to be a Tour Guide for Rodeo Austin, please contact: Kate Blankenship at the Extension office (512-393-2120) to sign up!
